Coffee Stencils for Cafes and Events

Coffee stencils are a small, low-cost way for a café or event to leave a memorable impression — a branded logo dusted onto a flat white travels further than most people expect. Here's what to consider before ordering one.

Food safety first

Any stencil used directly on food or drink needs to be made from a food-safe material and kept clean between uses. This isn't the place to repurpose a general-purpose craft stencil — ask your supplier what the stencil is made from before ordering.

Both materials we use for coffee stencils are food safe: 3mm acrylic and 0.35mm Mylar. Neither needs any special handling beyond washing between uses.

Why we default to 3mm acrylic

Our main coffee stencil material is 3mm acrylic, and it is the better material overall for this job. Being rigid, it rests flat across the rim of the cup rather than sagging toward the crema, which keeps the dusted edge sharp and the design consistent from cup to cup. It does not warp, it wipes clean, and it holds its shape through constant service in a way thin film does not.

Mylar at 0.35mm is the alternative where you want something lighter or lower cost. Thinner 0.19mm Mylar can be used for coffee work, but we do not recommend it here — it is better suited to intricate artwork on curved surfaces than to daily café service.

Size and detail

Coffee stencils are small and viewed up close, so fine detail matters more here than in most other applications. Logos with very thin lines or small text may need slight simplification to read clearly once dusted with cocoa or cinnamon on a coffee's surface.

We cut them at 80mm and 110mm. The 80mm suits a standard flat white or cappuccino; 110mm suits larger cups and cocktail glassware. If your logo is detailed, tell us which size you are ordering and we will adjust the artwork so it still reads at that scale.

Durability for daily use

A café using the same stencil dozens of times a day needs a material that can be washed and reused without warping. This is the main argument for acrylic over film: it comes out of the wash flat every time, and there is no gradual curl or soften at the edges over months of service.

Beyond coffee

The same stencils are popular for dusting desserts, branding plated dishes at events, and seasonal promotions — a café might swap between a standard logo stencil and a seasonal design (a snowflake, a heart, an event logo) depending on the time of year. The 110mm size doubles for cocktail work.

• Check the material is food safe — ours are
• Simplify fine logo detail for small-scale legibility
• Order a couple of duplicates if the stencil will be in constant daily use, so one can be washed while the other is in service
• For events, consider a simple seasonal design alongside your main logo stencil
