Bringing Heritage to Life: Custom Stencils for Vanessa Bell’s Knitwear Launch

At Tinkable, we thrive on projects that blend creative vision with practical execution. We recently had the pleasure of working with Vanessa Bell, CEO & Founder of her namesake luxury knitwear brand, on a bespoke branding solution for a major launch event.

Vanessa’s event, hosted in a traditional shearing shed near Walcha, NSW, required a branding element that was both striking and respectful of Australian heritage. The core concept drew inspiration from traditional wool classing practices, where stencils are used to mark fleece quality and property branding onto wool bales. Vanessa sought to echo this powerful heritage by spray-painting her logo directly onto the shearing shed’s wooden slat walls.

The Tinkable Solution

To achieve this large-scale, refined branding effect on a textured timber surface, we needed to ensure maximum durability and clean application.

Our team created three custom Mylar stencils of varying sizes, including one at 600mm wide and two much larger versions, one initially sized at approximately 1300mm x 700mm. We recommended and used our industrial-grade 14mil Mylar, which offers 0.35mm of thickness. This material is durable and flexible enough to ensure a clean, accurate cut across such large dimensions, making it the most suitable choice for sharp application onto the timber surface.

Vanessa expressed confidence that the stencils would look "striking in the shearing shed", and the final result exceeded expectations.
